Their slave owners keep them in because they gave them so much money they still owe. They’re in debt you see debt is the currency of slaves and they’ve gotten a ton of money to keep in that position over and over and over again. Make sure we don’t vote in any slaves. Find out where they get their money
It would suck to see them go, but I would still put the upper age limit in place, knowing it would unseat them. Changes have to be made, even if it would unseat a couple of the good ones in the process
Basically what age limits are saying is that people can't be trusted to retire, right? So doesn't that mean they're not fit to hold office in the first place and isn't the question of who is indeed fit the larger one? Age limits aren't going to keep a Tommy Tuberville or an Andy Ogles out of office. This, to me, is the real issue. How do we make sure we're not electing idiots in the first place?
In that case they shouldn't be elected in the first place. We need a huge reboot of our political processes. Why are we electing people we can't trust? This to me is one of the fundamental problems we need to solve.
I agree but incumbents have a huge advantage and they accumulate so much money and power that they keep younger and typically more progressive candidates from even running. It shouldn’t be so easy to say tick-tick the game is locked for the next FIFTY to SIXTY years. Bernie Sanders is having to work tirelessly to promote and support candidates that are young, energetic and progressive as compared to Schumers toadies in MANY primaries this year. What they did to Graham Platner in Maine was unconscionable! The Democratic establishment tried so hard to push him out.
This is absolutely true! So yes, we need to do multiple things to stop it from happening. I think term limits is a good idea and I also think we need to get money out of politics. We should also have shorter campaigns (in the UK they only campaign for something like six weeks--yes, they're smaller, but do we really need campaigns to go on for two years?). But we also need to stop the revolving door between government and lobbyists and put limits on all kinds of things like stock trading by legislators and the size that corporations are allowed to grow. But more than anything we need to change the culture from one of grasping to cooperation. Ha! Not in my lifetime but I believe this should be the goal.
Yes there are numerous problems but upper age limit is definitely a massive problem look at Pelosi when she getting up there Maxine Waters , chuck grassley and definitely Mitch McConnell the guy was catatonic at least twice possibly three times standing in front of a podium , we can't have people that probably need maids and servants to tie their damn shoes in the morning before they go to work that's Paramount importance for me
Who cares? People like Bernie Sanders and Warren will not go away. They are both working tirelessly now to support progressive young democrats over Schumer’s toadies. It’s time for age limits. If you can still do a job while on a breathing machine and senile there is something wrong with the job.
They hardly work anyway most of these people might work 6 months out of the year and now they're complaining about not making enough money Mike Johnson was talking about pay raise for senators and allowing them to trade stocks like eff that I agree with Scott Galloway.
we should pay these people a much more money( ie maybe 250k) and then not allow them to trade stocks or do anything as a sideline business and if they do they're booted out of government immediately.
I think term limits is absolutely reasonable. I don't think it's enough though. I don't know what the answer is, but somehow we have to make sure we get better candidates. Overturning Citizens United would be a start.
Both age and term limits. No retirement benefits- they pay into their own 401k and no Healthcare benefits until they have been in office for at least 6 months. Then they pay for their own. And they lose their “job related benefits “ the day they retire.
And how about this? Set goals that benefit the public and if they don't achieve them, they sacrifice all their perks and/or become even more term-limited and/or they're out.
I'm glad you like it. I'm not sure how we get people to agree on the criteria, of course, since all Republicans want to do is enrich themselves and their friends. We will have to work on this.
Going forward only people with firm and definable commitments should run on merit and talk directly to citizens. Their ideas should be addressed in speech and print. No special interests buying votes. No adds, only debates and presentations of issues should be allowed.
We need to stop electing clueless prom kings and queens on popularity. Knowledge and integrity are what must be shown. Less congressional makeup, expensive clothing, and flawless hair is needed. We don't need fake presentation and promises and no ideology other than Americanism.
Judith, I personally think 20 years is too long a term. I think 10-12 years is a better limit. Just my opinion. Also, impeachment should enforced in cases like alito and thomas. 🤓🖖🏻
I'm against age limits for Congress. If we had them, we wouldn't have Bernie Sanders. There's also a lot to be said for experienced politicians. I do think, however, that everyone holding public office at the national level should get an independent medical exam, to include mental health, before being able to file for election or REelection. John Fetterman, for instance, probably should not be in office after his stroke. Trump definitely shouldn't be. We just have to make sure the exams aren't performed by some guy on the terrace at the candidate's golf club.
It shdn't be about age, but about cognitive ability (& about actually working for the American ppl & following the Constitution, not for some deranged wannabe dictator). There r plenty of elderly ppl who r sharp as tacks, & lots of young folks who r dumb as rocks.
I’m 69 and retired. I agree there should be an upper age limit for President/Vice President, Congress and SCOTUS. Maybe 70 or 75? Should also have a reasonably good physical & mental health standard of some kind. We don’t need any truly sick people in important government positions.
It has been time for term limits for more than 50 years. End Citizens United. AIPAC. PACS SHOULD BE ABOLISHED. TRADE BY ALL GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS AND RELATIVES PROHIBITED! THIS SYSTEM NEEDS TOTAL REVAMPING …
Term limits and age limits! There are very knowledgeable and smart older Congress people. However they can continue to contribute after they've aged out or reached their term limit.
Here's a list of the upcoming primary elections in May:
Nebraska - 5/12
West Virginia - 5/12
Louisiana - 5/16
Alabama - 5/19
Georgia - 5/19
Idaho - 5/19
Kentucky - 5/19
Oregon - 5/19
Pennsylvania - 5/19
Please vote in your primary elections! Vote out the do-nothing incumbents.
California is June 2nd
Their slave owners keep them in because they gave them so much money they still owe. They’re in debt you see debt is the currency of slaves and they’ve gotten a ton of money to keep in that position over and over and over again. Make sure we don’t vote in any slaves. Find out where they get their money
And NJ Congressional primary early voting starts tomorrow 5/26.
Thank you
Set age limits on the Senate and the House and you'll lose Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. A better idea is not to elect jerks.
It would suck to see them go, but I would still put the upper age limit in place, knowing it would unseat them. Changes have to be made, even if it would unseat a couple of the good ones in the process

Well at least they wouldn’t be eligible to remain there for life!
They want to stay so they can do some more insider trading- the very thing that sent Martha Stewart to prison!!!!
Yes, excellent point.
But few of congress or cabinet
Diane Feinstein literally died in office. They can't be trusted to retire.
In that case they shouldn't be elected in the first place. We need a huge reboot of our political processes. Why are we electing people we can't trust? This to me is one of the fundamental problems we need to solve.
Given that the United States is not even a democracy right now, yes, yes we do. Congress is not doing its job.
See my reply

Term limits would…. Limit it to 2 terms in Senate and 6 in House…. That’s 12 years max die either one.
It would also limit the total time in Congress to 24 years if someone served in the House and then the Senate.
Supreme Court needs to be subject to age limits. Seriously… who gets a job for life no matter what?
Term limits and cognitive tests by a third party heavily regulated. Fucking boomers. No excuses.
Educated voters would be more effective, as well as term limits and removing Citizen's United.
Who is to say that age 65, or 70, or 75 is THE age? It shd be based on ea individual person.
74 years old and I don’t think anyone deserves to hold office after the age of 70.
Maybe more fair certainly the "genetic card "plays a lot into people's longevity but that would be far too complex
Who cares? People like Bernie Sanders and Warren will not go away. They are both working tirelessly now to support progressive young democrats over Schumer’s toadies. It’s time for age limits. If you can still do a job while on a breathing machine and senile there is something wrong with the job.
Jim Clyburn is nearly 90 and running again? I love Bernie and Liz is one of my Senators. But everyone ages out.
Schumer needs go get the fuck out of government

Please read Tyranny of the Minority-lots of answers in that book.
I will read it! Thank you.

Exactly.
Ok Elizabeth can go but Bernie is a treasure .
They need to go. Period. We need new blood.
As I just mentioned, how about having to achieve specific goals or they're out? It happens in business. Why not in elected office?
Going forward only people with firm and definable commitments should run on merit and talk directly to citizens. Their ideas should be addressed in speech and print. No special interests buying votes. No adds, only debates and presentations of issues should be allowed.

Totally agree. Now, how do we make that happen in this superficial culture?
Maybe you could make some exceptions keep Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren if their of sound minds
Bernie has always said “Us not me.”
Too bad
The democratic establishment leadership handed the whitehouse to a pedophile fuck twice.
You mean like Bernie and Pocahontas?!
Good point.
Sorry Warren must go !
Why?
Health Care for life is BULLSHIT! End it now!
Age limits AND term limits for Congress members AND for the courts.
Agree. No age nor term limits allows reduced capacity to make impartial decisions. The term “set in their ways” applies.
Absolutely.
I definitely support an upper age limit for Congresspeople -- and for the Supreme Court. I think it should be 70. (I am almost 83, myself.)
Also, for the Supreme Court, I support a term limit: 20 years seems about right.
Judith, I personally think 20 years is too long a term. I think 10-12 years is a better limit. Just my opinion. Also, impeachment should enforced in cases like alito and thomas. 🤓🖖🏻
Age limits for presidents and Supreme Court justices too.
…career politician should be an oxymoron and lobbying as legal corruption
Senators 6 years.
Congress 6 years.
Supreme Court 15 years.
Presidents 2 terms.
That's my wish for Christmas.
Better than what we have now

Term limits and age limits! There are very knowledgeable and smart older Congress people. However they can continue to contribute after they've aged out or reached their term limit.
For the Supreme Court too - including term limits.
Age limit 75 (all), and term limits:
Senators: Max 2 (6 year terms, 12 years total). So election age is 63
Representatives: Max 5 (2 year terms, 10 years total). So election age is 65
Supreme Court: 20 years. So appointed at 55
President: Age 67 when elected
Society changes dramatically over 10-20 years. The ‘old ways’ don’t /won’t apply anymore.
