81-Year-Old Calls Luigi Mangione A 'Modern-Day Robin Hood'

Strong message to the healthcare industry

I came across the video earlier today, after it was shared by a couple different accounts that I follow & I wanted to share it with you. This will the 2nd time I’ve tried one of these video posts, so please let me know how y’all feel about these types of posts.

81-year-old James Taylor from Tampa is fighting a debilitating back injury—but his Medicare Advantage insurance refuses to cover the surgery his doctor says he urgently needs.

Reflecting on Luigi Mangione and his alleged shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, Taylor says, “It kind of resembles like a modern-day Robin Hood. I don’t want to sound the way it’s gonna come out, but I was happy for the fact it brought attention to the public… over the hundreds of thousands of lives already lost because of neglect.”

As someone who also struggles with chronic health issues & has had to battle the healthcare industry to get the care I need, I couldn’t help but gravitate to this story.

We as a nation have been embroiled with a constant discussion about our healthcare system over the last month, so I’m not sure how much more there is to add the conversation. However, I do think the focus needs to be on maintaining the conversation.

Inevitably, another story will come across the news cycle and start to steal the national attention away from this one. I just hope that as time goes on, we continue to share stories like this one & continue to demand the universal healthcare that we all deserve.

Until next time,

Desmond
