Earlier today, 8 Senate Democrats decided to join MAGA Republicans, and begin the process of ending the shutdown & reopening the Government.
Democrats had been refusing to work with Republicans to open the government, due to the erosion of the ACA healthcare subsidies, which is going to spike healthcare insurance premiums for millions of Americans.
Even earlier today, Democrats took to national airwaves and said that they had NO INTENTION of folding to the Republicans, because the fight for Americans healthcare was too important.
Well, I guess that was no the case for all Democrats…
Since this announcement earlier on Sunday, outrage has been spreading across social media, where many are calling for the 8 Senators (and Chuck Schumer) to be primaried.
In the video above, Democratic Senator from New Hampsire, Jeanne Shaheen, justified her position by saying the Republicans weren’t going to work with us anyway, so we had no choice.
Conveniently, leaving out the fact that 40 other Senate Democrats came out against this move.
This is so absolutely pathetic, I cannot handle it. What was the point of the shutdown, when you were going to cave in the end anyway?
The argument here is - the Republicans were never going to negotiate with us, so our only choice was to give in to their demands. But that’s okay, because they promised to let us vote on a bill next month…
This is so unbelievably weak, I can’t stand it. We need to primary these people & completely turn over this party. They do not represent us.
Many have mentioned that Chuck Schumer (Leader of the Democrats in the Senate) voted “no” on this bill, so it’s not his fault.
He’s the leader of the Democrats in the Senate. It is literally his JOB to keep the caucus on message.
Quite a few have already pointed to the fact that the 8 Senators who voted for this, conveniently do not have primaries in 2026…almost like this was orchestrated.
Now, to be 100% clear, this *technically* isn’t over yet. While I believe it’s unlikely these 8 will budge from their positions, there is still time to change their mind.
The Senate must go through several more procedures before this becomes official.
One thing is for sure, we shouldn’t even be in this position in the first place. We should have a REAL opposition party that fights for us, but instead, we have one that pretends to fight for us, but constantly folds to Republican and/or billionaire pressure.
