First and foremost - sorry for the late post tonight, today definitely got a little away from me & it took me a while to settle on a topic today.

I came across a slightly longer version of this clip on Threads earlier today, and I knew I had to share it with you.

If you' have access to the Substack app, I highly recommend heading to the app to watch the full 4 minute clip above. If you don’t have the app, I definitely recommend downloading it for this one.

Democratic Minority Leader in the House, Hakeem Jeffries, went onto Joy-Ann Reid show, where the topic of Abolishing ICE came up.

As you’ll see in the clip, Joy asked Jeffries why not just abolish ICE? When presented with that question, he proceeds to struggle with how to answer it. As if he wasn’t expecting someone to even ask him a question like that.

Co-host Wajahat Ali, attempts a follow-up question where he tries to ask Jeffries the same question, and Jeffries responds by saying “I don't understand anything you just said to me”.

Let’s be clear about something…for those of you who have been following my account for quite some time, you’ve already heard me say this, but I know there’s quite a few new people in here…

In order to truly move on our country forward, we have to not only defeat the fascism of the MAGA movement, but we must also replace the fascist enablers withing the Democratic Party.

Too often, our politics devolves into a simplistic “blue team good, red team bad” mentality, but the truth is a lot more nuanced than that.

The Democratic Party has far too many people within it, who have been silent in the face of this regime, because a lot elements of it do not bother them…that’s the God’s honest truth.

In order to have the country we deserve, we need to have a reckoning within the Democratic Party, where many members are primaried & replaced with people who actually will fight for us.

A real opposition party.

Leader Jeffries,

It’s not enough, just to say ICE is lawless, & say they shouldn’t have masks, & should be prosecuted for committing crimes. We’re way past that.

Frankly, if you that is all you’re concerned with, than that tells me you’re okay with

  • Them detaining people for speaking a different language

  • Being able to break into people’s homes with warrants

  • Using our devices to surveil the public

  • Threatening tech companies to pass over information of anyone critical of ICE online

  • Being able to steal money and possessions from people being detained

  • Having them being able to abduct people out of schools, hospitals, churches

  • Being able to use lethal force

  • Being able to abuse detainees in our detention centers

  • Holding people in detention indefinitely

  • Denying them medical care in detention

  • Trafficking people to countries they’ve never been

  • Abducting children

You cannot tell me that unmasking them & opening them up to prosecution is enough. An agency with that can violate our constitutional rights, should not exist in this country.

A politician that advocates for their continued existence, knowing what they’ve done, should not be leading us.

Hakeem Jeffries should not be leading the Democratic Party.

Just so we’re clear - neither should Chuck Schumer.

We all deserve better.

We deserve a real opposition party.
