Democrats can't simultaneously say they have "no power', then also not use the power they do have. They may not be able to stop MAGA redistricting red states, but they can fight back in Virginia. They need to do this. Fight fire with fire. You can't sit back & let MAGA steal this election, when you have the power to do something.

Taffy1764's avatar

Yep, “when they go low we go high” no longer works” These days I’m just wishing I was high🤣

Haas's avatar

The party that holds governorships, state legislatures, and redistricting commissions in several states is not lacking power. It is lacking nerve. That is the correct diagnosis and the harder fix.

Omixintel's avatar

Completely impossible! Prove me wrong legally.

Steve's avatar

Who cares? They don’t.

Omixintel's avatar

Either way, it was a poor strategy.

H.O.'s avatar

I agree! Don’t procrastinate-do it!

Marcie Winter's avatar

Brilliant! I love the outside-the-box thinking! It’s just what we need to fight fire with fire!!!🔥

Marie2025's avatar

YES!!!! Democrats must start fighting fire with a bigger propane torch!!!!

Hedy Eckert's avatar

We the people will have to fight for our Country Congress will do nothing. There are only a few good Dems left. The rest are as bad as trump.

Steve's avatar

Obviously, you do not know what you’re talking about.

Haas's avatar

The propane torch metaphor is understood. The more useful question is whether those holding it have read the fire code, or are simply hoping for the best.

Why isn't Gov. Spanberger leading this charge?

Just a thought: decreasing the age limit for judges and then selecting his own justices is how Viktor Orbán re-made the judiciary in Hungary. Don't see that as a reason not to do it - use it because it works.

Stephanie's avatar

The age limit also keeps justices from being on the court for decades…. Does away with the need for term limits.

Charlie's avatar

The VA Supreme Court--which is what this is about--has a 12 year term.

Steve's avatar

Sometimes the wrong thing to do is the right thing to do, and this is the right time to do the wrong thing. The governor should stay out of it. Unless needed.

Betsy L's avatar

Is that like Good Trouble?

Douglas Paul Truhlar's avatar

How old is Kavenaugh? No matter the answer, wait one more, no matter what he’s the wrong age!

Steve's avatar

You need to reread the article. It’s the Virginia judges they’re talking about.. but what about the three they voted against it?

Anthony Galligani's avatar

You could get rid of anyone over 70 and eliminate Thomas, Alito and Roberts. Also Kagan would be gone but if Dems get to choose they can erase the failed Red Court.

Karen Antolick Shive's avatar

If they do this then trump could re-appoint worse couldnt he?

Steve's avatar

I think so as long as we know it is wrong, sometimes too wrong to make a right?

Haas's avatar

The Orbán model succeeded not because it was subtle but because the opposition spent three years debating whether to use it. The judiciary was redesigned before the debate concluded.

Tina's avatar

When they blatantly disregard the people’s vote, they should be replaced

Yes, we need to strongly battle back with a unified front. Pray for Peace, Fight for Justice.

This is exactly the same issue we have with left political parties here in the UK. Instead of fighting the rw racist fascists back exactly the way they are, Labour instead, like Drumpf, have got into bed with Netanyahu. They're constantly behaving like a rw party by their actions on issues, instead of getting on with it and reviewing things and changing them for the better. Instead of taking the 70% rw media to task via review and penalties, they just allow them to be utterly biased, racist, rw, and ommit the truth, report and print lies and now are seemingly unstoppable at framing the minds of idiots.

Fight fire with fire i say. If they cant play nice, at least 2 to 3 days of your week should partially consist of ways around what they do, as well as calling them out publicly on the corruption they do and who with. Start with a long list and keep adding to it daily, and stating what it is as well as the consequences for the citizens, its services and the country too.

Marie Maduemezia's avatar

They think we are stupid. It’s past time to address the corruption from the Roberts Court. Their covert rulings must be challenged. Without oversight they have been allowed to continue making decisions that stripe the people of their Rights and Freedoms.

Sarah Godbey's avatar

We desperately need to petition them to fight for us, signed the people who provide your paychecks!

Someone create the petition that is better at this task than myself and get it moving forward signatures fast please!

Democrats have been saying that they do not have the power to fight back against the Republicans because they do not have sufficient numbers. They have forgotten an inconvenient fact: Even when Republicans did not have the numbers on their side, they never stopped fighting for their causes, their ideology. I believe it was Lindsey Graham who said 'Never stop fighting.'

Democrats, stop rolling over and playing dead. Fight back.

Fran Dantuono-Morse's avatar

Exactly. Yes, we don’t have the majority, but we have voices. Stop being wishy washy, and get louder.

Marie Maduemezia's avatar

The Supreme Court rulings will not be the last word. We will be challenging their rulings. I’m disgusted by this court and their corruption.

Eighty-Six Forty-Seven.

The Convicted Criminal Donald Trump is physically, intellectually, cognitively, ethically, and morally unfit to perform the duties of President of the United States. Trumps cognitive decline is obvious. His recent criminal acts—those committed in the last fifteen months—are being covered up by his criminal family, by his incompetent Cabinet, by Fascist Republican Members of Congress, and by the hopelessly corrupt Supreme Court.

As revealed by the October 18 demonstrations, (and confirmed by current approve/disapprove rankings), it is an irrefutable fact that Donald Trump’s Fascist Presidency is opposed by 67% of Americans. This supermajority will not rest until Donald Trump and his Fascist enablers are removed from office, prosecuted for treason, convicted and thrown into prison.

Im good with that - Repugs cheat all the time. If we have to lower our bars a bit - lets do it.

IT’s time for POWER. Governors can call in the national guard and get people out of these ICE camps. Those chumps would shit themselves and open the gates. If any Supreme Court is renegade, it’s time to deal with them by any peaceful means. Every City manager can today put a 24 month moratorium on Data Center planning. Every town can amend its bylaws to protect its water for townspeople by also putting moratoriums on water, and city resources. Make this hard, slow them down. Flex every little muscle to make one huge one.

Fight the evil of the court! They can’t be allowed to get away with removing the wishes of the People and changing things to THEIR benefit!!

Fight fire with fire and this Governor can do it 💪
