We NEED A NEW DEMOCRATIC PARTY!

We have needed for a long time...my whole life since I started voting at 18yo in 1980!!! Also, we as voters need to be much more careful and discerning in our choices. That being said, WE NEED A NEW DEMOCRATIC PARTY.

(not yelling, caps for emphasis).

But, I would really like to yell and scream and shout!!!

I could not agree more. It's time to start over. Clearly, this party isn't doing a good enough job representing us. If they can't oppose Trump in this moment, then how can we count on them at all in the future? Time to look towards the future & figure out who can stay in the Party & who needs to go.

We need better candidates. More Progressive minded candidates. If democrats would work together with progressives we wouldn’t be in this mess

I am 61, enough! I've been watching Democrats implode since McGovern. This party is dead. Definitely need to set up a new party on the left. The old guard needs to step aside, if they can't, we will just have to push them. The majority needs to take this country back.

Because of how the senate and electoral college is permanently skewed towards the right, more power is given to less populous, rural states, and the densely populated urban areas are so easy to gerrymander, we have literally only two choices. I continue to vote Democrat because it’s literally the only other option, but there HAS to be a better choice. The status quo is bullshit. It’s not good enough. I’m sick to death of voting for Party Not Good Enough because it’s better than Party Deathcamp

If the Democrats had put in a fraction of the effort advocating for constituents that they put into corporate trade agreements and supporting genocides that leave their voters horrified I might think they have something worth salvaging but they don't.

Hi, I'm new to this group. I am a former moderate Republican turned independent to escape MAGA and feel very party powerless. I have been on other substacks urging reform of the Democratic Party into the NEW Big Tent party that works for most Americans. Sure compromise would be required but from district to district you will see candidates along the spectrum consistently beat THE POT (Partyof Trump). If this isn't done with Dem's in the lead, how can this possibly be done?

Yep. I’ve been thinking this for a while. The dems of today are so far right, they’re the republicans of my youth. We need to take them over like the tea party hollowed out the GOP. They’ve made it nearly impossible to stand up a third party so we’ve got to take them over.

Many are talking about a third party. And progressives and liberals is often alligned. But if the problem with THIS democratic party is the leadership. So the solution may be a new leadership. If the likes of Schumer, Pelosi(I know she is not a member of the senate, but she is democratic leadership) If they step down and the leadership become more progressive/liberal. And have better advisers. Then THIS Democratic party may become what Americans need. And I hear many criticize Hakeem Jeffries also. And I agree that he is too much of a center-left and seems to have given up.

The only reason he got in is because millions of people who voted for Biden didn’t vote for Kamala. It’s about numbers at the polls not policies. The democrats policies are incredibly popular even among republicans and independents. It’s about getting lazy fools off their complacent asses and get them to the polls. Stop shooting holes in our boat. It’s the fascists that are the problem

Reform the Democratic Party yes but the entire system has failed. The Constitution was written for a specific purpose at that time. It has outlived its purpose. Take a match to it. Rewrite the laws of the land. To include everyone. It’s sad to see how this country has failed. It’s also frightening.

How do we engage those on the sidelines? All of us here are engaged voters. As a microcosm, of the 11 voting Dems closest to me (myself included) only 2 of our group are actively engaged (~18%) 2 more are only paying attention (~18%), the remaining 6 believe they voted, we lost so move on, ~54% of my little group voted then disengaged. In this last election 89.9 million people, 36% of eligible voters, did not even vote. How do we engage the one-and-done or apathetic voters? I am all for a new party, which includes poaching the strong rising leaders in the current dem party. We need a unifying voice that is a voter-centered, not party over people.

Great article but you need an editor.

I agree we need to overhaul the Democratic Party. We need to get rid of all the spineless bastards that voted against us. Started looking now for candidates that will stand up for democracy and the American people! We also need to be able to replace them before their term is over when they vote against us.
