Did You Join The Economic Blackout Yesterday? Did It Work...?
By: Desmond Price
Aren’t we all craving something positive to put our energy towards?
I know every single time I sit down to write a post for y’all it crosses my mind - is there something positive I can spin out of this terrible story?
Let’s be fair, no one wants to be depressed all the time. Unfortunately, reporting on the news has just been…well…all bad recently. So, positivity has been on short supply 🤷🏾♂️
I did my best to remedy that with our recent post on Project 2029. If you haven’t read it yet, please click below & then come back to this post 😎
I mean, we need SOMETHING to not only look forward to, but to also invest our energy into. Resisting this current moment in time isn’t just about acquiring knowledge & sharing it within your circle, we also needs activities to engage in.
That’s where protests enter the chat.
Yes, the traditional protests have their appeal. You get some exercise 🏃♀️, you get to hang out with friends/family, you meet new like-minded people, you get to yell, it’s a good time.
This type of protest though, feels uniquely gratifying to me though.
The Economic Blackout Of February 28th, 2025
I’m sure some of you saw this image floating around social media over the last week ⬇️
I’m going to be honest here - I have no idea what’s going on with this rabbit, but that’s okay. I’m the last person who should be criticizing anyone’s drawing 😅
I’m curious to know how many of you saw this post. Did you come across this image on your social media feed over the last week? Please comment below ⬇️
I know I couldn’t escape this image, it felt like more and more people were sharing it as the week went on.
At first I wasn’t sure if this was a good idea or not. That’s not because I don’t believe in the merit of the idea, but rather, I wasn’t sure if we should invest our energy into something like this. You have to get a tremendous amount of people to join an economic boycott for them to have any true effect.
In retrospect, I think I was allowing my pessimism to grip me a little too tight. Truthfully, it’s those limiting beliefs that we need to not be investing into.
Taking a day to boycott spending money at corporate stores, avoiding gas stations, avoiding all debit/credit card transactions, and concentrating any spending you’re forced to do at small businesses, is legitimately a terrific form of protest.
We’ve been talking about this & so has a lot of left-leaning folks across media - the billionaires are the problem in our society. We are constantly at their mercy & it feels like we have very few tools to truly combat their influence and power.
This form of protest however, is one of those tools. Personally I think it feels good to flex the power we do still have. It’s so gratifying to feel like there’s an opportunity to claw back something after the last month of feeling powerless.
Make no mistake, the MAGA agenda, the Trump agenda, it is the billionaires agenda.
Gutting the federal government & attempting to privatize everything is the oligarchs dream for the future of the United States. It’s the next big absorption of wealth they’re chasing, because as we’ve seen, there’s no such thing as enough with these people.
There is only MORE. Endless MORE.
I came across this post on Instagram yesterday & I think it summarizes the importance of this economic blackout.
Did The Economic Blackout Work?
Time will tell, but I’m very encouraged by what I’ve been seeing so far. As someone who has been engaging with folks regularly through social media since 2020, this may just be the most animated I have seen folks since that summer.
Truly, it felt like this boycott picked up steam over the last several days & folks everywhere we’re talking about.
Even the larger accounts like Under the Desk News we’re posting about it on their Instagram accounts, garnering what I’m sure was hundreds of thousands of views just from them alone.
Even in my corner of the internet, I saw incredible enthusiasm for the boycott. I posted a poll on my Instagram story, asking how many people were participating in the blackout, just to get a feel for just how popular it was with my audience.
As I’m writing this now, the poll has only been up for 12 hours & it already has more responses to it than any other poll I’ve put up in the last year (which is a lot, because we do a lot of polls on my IG account). If you’re not already, you should really be following us on IG.
So did the economic boycott work?
If we’re trying to determine how it impacted the billionaires bottom line, I’m sure they felt the impact in some way, but I think there’s a couple things we need to shine a light on quickly before we conclude this story.
It’s is sooo important for us as a collective to not only have something positive to concentrate our energy on, but also, I am HIGHLY encouraged that so many people in this country are correctly identifying the billionaire class as the true epicenter of our problems.
Finding different ways to impact their revenue & putting pressure on them is, in my opinion, one of the best forms of resistance we can exude. Lord knows that we all needed something positive to focus our energy on.
Which is what leads me directly to the 2nd part & the conclusion of my post today…
If we’re truly going to apply pressure to the billionaires, this cannot be the ONLY economic blackout.
Let’s Have Another Economic Blackout On March 28th
Let’s face it, as gratifying as that was, it won’t be enough to apply real pressure to the billionaires. Luckily for us, there’s absolutely no reason we cannot do it again 😎
And we should do it again, soon.
I propose March 28th as the next day. I’ll be posting it to my Instagram this weekend & hopefully it’ll be even bigger than the last one!
Applying continuous pressure is the best way forward. Hurting their income is the best form of protest. Reclaiming power from these will not come voluntarily on their part, they need to feel some pressure.
What are your thoughts on the economic blackout? Did you participate? Would you participate in the next one? Please leave a comment below.
And now, here is a video that I hope makes you smile 🦆
Until next time,
Desmond

I participated. There’s another economic blackout scheduled for march 8 and another one on march 15. There’s an Amazon boycott scheduled for march 7 through march 14 and a Walmart boycott scheduled for April 7 through April 14.
I bought nothing but did use a credit card to support Ukraine 🇺🇦
