Trump Is Sending ICE To The Olympics...In Italy. Italian Officials Furious.
I can't believe this is actually a real headline
It’s January 28th, 2026. You are a full year into the 2nd Trump term & the news is an exhausting torture wheel. At this point, you may believe that you’ve seen it all & nothing would surprise you at this point…but you would be wrong, or at least I was.
Because this story legitimately left me just staring at the screen of my phone, wondering what the hell I was reading.
Why is ICE being sent to Italy?
What possible reasoning could be behind a move like this?
Now, I know it’s a useless endeavor trying to understand the mind I Donald Trump, but I couldn’t help myself. I’m legitimately at a loss here.
The official word is they’re being sent there to act as “extra security”, but that begs an obvious question - why ICE? Do we not have several other agencies, or just private contractors, that could act as security for Winter Olympic athletes?
Here’s the excerpt I read earlier from Ground News:
The Department of Homeland Security said U.S. immigration officers assisting with security at Italy’s Milan Cortina Winter Olympics will operate under Italian authority and will not conduct immigration enforcement.
DHS said Homeland Security Investigations, a unit within Immigration and Customs Enforcement, will support the U.S. State Department’s Diplomatic Security Service and Italian officials during the Feb. 6–22 Games, adding in a post on X, “Obviously, ICE does not conduct immigration enforcement operations in foreign countries,” and “All security operations remain under Italian authority.”
The announcement drew criticism from Italian officials and political figures amid backlash over ICE actions in the United States.Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala told RTL Radio 102, “This is a militia that kills, a militia that enters into the homes of people, signing their own permission slips. It is clear they are not welcome in Milan, without a doubt”.
While former Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte wrote on X, “We cannot allow this,” and added, “Enough with the bows and scrapes—let’s set our own boundaries too.”
It seems I wasn’t the only person who was confused by this news. Many took to the comments on Ground News to share their feelings about this story & I wanted to share a few with you in the image below
The only conclusion I can come to is Trump is worried about the public perception of ICE, & he’s hoping to turn that around by having the world see his secret police in a more “positive light”.
This feels like nothing more that a spin campaign to get the people back on his side again.
One thing remains abundantly clear to me - ICE must be abolished & the people involved must be prosecuted for violating the civil rights of the people of this country.

What is your reaction to this story, because I'm still at a bit of a loss reading this. I can't tell if I should be laughing or worried at the fact that we're sending ICE to other countries.
If they don't know how to behave here they won't impress anyone there. There's some nefarious reason for this. It should be illegal too, since there's nothing in their official duties that could possibly pertain in another country.
